Project i Entrance

Project i was a five year study of homeless young people in Melbourne and Los Angeles.
The research focused on young people between 12 and 20 years of age who had recently become homeless.
Funded by the National Institute of Mental Health in the USA,

Project i was a collaborative project between the Key Centre for Women's Health at the University of Melbourne and the Center for Community Health at the University of California.

Data collection is complete. Final publications are currently being written. Completed research papers.

COMING!
  • Moving out moving on: Young people's pathways in and through homelessness (due to be released late 2006)

  • The research has kept track of 165 newly homeless young people in Melbourne and 265 in Los Angeles for two years.
  • In depth open-ended interviews were conducted with 40 newly homeless young people.
  • The Melbourne team maintained 85% follow-up across the two years.
  • One-off surveys were conducted with 509 young people who had been homeless for over two years.
  • In depth interviews were conducted with service providers from housing, mental health, juvenile justice, child protection, Centrelink and preventative mediation services.
